It is a Lumia 830. I turned off automatic updates, but I go to check it and it is updating. I watch it & it crashes. It automatically reboots and restarts the undate, then it crashes. It has repeated that 5 times now. Do your self a deed and don’t get a windows phone. The first 1 year was great, then this year it has been going down hill. It is problem after problem. A VW 1.8T is more reliable. It is also no longer taking a charge. My computer won’t detect when I plug it in to it. How the hell will I recover all the info off it?

Even Microsoft is telling the world not to buy Windows phones. But at least you’re allowed to take it on an airplane, right?

I got it 2 years ago, I got it so it could sync with the Windows PC.

Man, you lasted this long? I’m impressed.
I’ve owned nearly every Nokia Windows Phone from the 900 (and every other 9XX variant) to the 1020, 1530, 620, some other low end phones, the Icon and even the 830. Windows Phone has been one big disappointment and altogether a let down.
I’m now happily typing this from a Nexus 6P. There was some potential with WP, and tons of potential with Nokia’s hardware, but that ship has sailed now. Microsoft very much misread the market and overestimated their ability to make a presense without legitimate effort.
Signed,
A former Nokia and subsequently Microsoft employee.

Android and iPhone have been able to do that for a long time now.

Yet mine and my partners Lumia 930's are over 2 years old now and still faultless, as is my friends and his partner has just changed his over 3year old 925 for a 950 just got he wanted a newer phone, his 925 is still fine.

The last phone that I truly loved... It’s been 6 years since it died.
I had an iPhone 4 that lasted a very long time and I was pleased with, but the Mr. Jobs died, iOS 7 debuted and that was that. My current Galaxy S5 is humming along adequately.

Is it on Windows 10 Mobile? Because if it’s like the desktop version, that won’t actually let you disable updates.
As far as not taking a charge and your computer not detecting it, that sounds like a faulty USB connector. A phone repair place may be able to repair the connector. Alternately, you could get a Qi (wireless) charger, and maybe do some sort of cloud sync.

Microsoft not developing Windows 10 Mobile, all while stupid HP decides to release an $800 phone that its killer feature requires a $500 dock.
Fuck HP. I will never forgive them for webOS.

As someone who has used and/or owned many non-WP devices since and during that time, I suggest sticking with either Nexus/Pixel devices for Android, or just an iPhone. Anything else seems to be a hassle in the long run.
